Mom, Be With Us.

January 1, 2025

Mom,

Be with us in this new year. In whatever way you can from heaven, in whatever way God allows from above. Guide us with your influence and your love. Lead us to the spaces meant for us and steer us from the things that aren’t.

Please, be with us.

When it feels likes we’re abandoning you as a new year rolls in, one that you’ll never see, please stay. Stay in the memories and the reminiscence. Stay in our hearts and in our minds. Never leave.

Please stay with us.

When we feel like you’re slipping further away and in times where the empty space that you used to occupy feels like it will suffocate us, remind us that death did not change the love or the relationship. Remind us that you have never been fully gone, for pieces of you remain in us– always. Remind us that your love and your light were too powerful to diminish or fade.

Please, remind us.

When you look down and see us celebrating, engaged in joyous displays of happy moments, and also an ache in our soul for a moment that you’re missing, please be with us. Send us signs from above. Send us reminders of your presence. Send us tangible things that make it undeniable that you’re still here, in your own way, from heaven.

Please be with us.

As we enter into a new year and start a chapter that feels like it doesn’t contain you, remind us that it does. As we start to tell others that yet another year is added to the tally for how long you’ve been gone, fill our hearts with your influence and your faith and your hope. Show us that the truth is that it marks only how many years since your death, but that you’ve never truly been gone— you remain, in beautiful and invisible and unexpected ways.

Please, Mom, be with us– not just now as we enter a new year, but always.

However you can, be with us.

xox, your Daughter
