She’s smiling.
She’s been through the thick of it, nearly sinking in the quicksand of grief and heartbreak. But she’s smiling.
Not a fake smile either. The kind that starts from within. The kind that begins from joy or love, or both. The kind that says, I’m not just alive but living.
She’s smiling and it makes me hopeful that I’ll smile again too.
If she can go through all that she’s been through and still sparkle with that smile, then others probably can too. Maybe I can too.
And as I watch her smile, I notice I’m smiling too.
I smile in hope.
I smile in healing.
I smile in perseverance and pursuit.
I smile because she smiled.
Which means mine might do the same for someone else. Yours might too.
And she doesn’t know it. But her smile, through grief and tough times, through ache and longing, through all she’s been through, gave me hope. It gave me my smile back, just by witnessing hers.
And now I hope mine will return the favor.
I can’t wait to see you smile, friend.
I can’t wait to see you smile.
